Organization’s profile
ISNAR works under governance of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). It has defined the goal and objectives for its activities in biotechnology in direct relation to its institutional mandate, which is "to assist developing countries bring about sustained improvements in the performance of their national agricultural research systems and organizations." The goal of the biotechnology work is "to support innovation in agricultural research by responding to policy and management needs for biotechnology."

ISNAR also encompasses a Learning and Capacity Strengthening Program that complements each of the research themes, as well as IFPRI's overall food policy research and capacity strengthening activities. Through this program, ISNAR generates new knowledge in collaboration with partners and strengthens the capacity of individuals and institutions in food and agricultural innovation systems, universities, and government agencies so that they promote sustainable options for reducing hunger and poverty.
